~*Oxford Punching Progress*~

These were punched today...

They aren't too large - only about 7 by 9 inches each. I'm happy that the punching is progressing. There are still a few wonky strips in there... but I've been able to make some of them better. It is possible to 'hook' them to correct them. Or... like some that were wonky... I just left them & will accept them as they are. Maybe I'll just let the wonky be primitive?

I was asked if I have punched with yarn. I have done this before. I used some acrylic department store yarn & didn't really like it. I tried some cotton yarn the other day... and didn't like it yet either. In fact, that was one of the pieces I threw in the trash. But... I'm sure I will try yarn again. I am determined not to give up on this!

Wishing you all warm smiles...

Betty

  1. I love them!!!! I wish I could use wool strips to punch with but I just can't get the hang of it! I use the wool yarn. Maybe one day I will sit down and try again!! Have a great weekend.

  2. I think they are great!! I have just started rug hooking, using wool strips. I've never tried yarn. I have the Oxford hook, but prefer the regular hooks. I had trouble until I watched a how to video and now I'm doing so much better. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Betty, try wool yarn. I actually hooked my first rug with yarn (well, small decorative pieces, not an actual rug). I just blogged about it not too long ago actually. You can see what it looks like (remember, I used a regular hook, not a punch).

  7. When I use my oxford punch with both wool strips and wool rug yarn, I use a large Morgan Hoop. It holds my fabric really taut and I can lay it flat on a table or my bed (late night crafter)and punch through without hitting the surface underneath. My loops are nice and even. I tried using a regular hooked rug frame when I started and got the same uneven loops that you have been getting. Your designs are really cute, keep punching!!!!
