~*In The Dye Pots Again*~

Hello Dear Friends! I have been playing in the dye pots again... and learning a little more in the process. There were 6 yards of white/cream wool that needed a good change. For some reason, I had it in my mind that I shouldn't stir my wool when it was in the pot. I thought this because I thought wool needed to be mottled to look prim. Well... lesson learned! When dyeing white/cream wool it seems to be important to stir at least a little. The wool I dyed last night had lots of white patches left... and I really didn't like it. Prim, maybe... but the thought of what it would look liked hooked just wasn't right in my imagination. So this morning... I threw it back in the pots. Here is what I have (it is raining outside, so these are the best photos I can get right now)...

~*Mahogany Cream*~

~*Harvest*~

~*River Gold*~

~*Sunflower*~

~*Larkspur*~... very dark, but it may make some nice skies

~*Salt Box Red*~

Ok... I do think I might be getting a handle on this dye thing. I really am happy with the outcome this time!

In yesterday's mail I received a very sweet gift from my buddy Mimi... a birthday RAK...

She said she thought of me when she saw this cross stitched piece at an antique store. Oh... I'm so happy she did! It is lovely!

She also sent along these sweet pieces... just darling!

Thank you Mimi!

Wishing you all warm smiles...
Betty

  2. What a great little sampler! I've never dyed wool before, I've only hooked one little rug to date from a kit I bought on ebay. It was a lot of fun and I'd love to do more! If you have a chance take a peak at my blog and check my patterns that I have pics of. I would love any advice you have as I am a new designer (I've designed for awhile but am new to the pattern world) Your advice would be wonderful as I really love your work!! ~Kriss~

  17. Betty,
You're doing great with the dyeing! Keep it up! Another thing, if you want mottled wool, less water, put your vinegar or citric acid in before you put the wool in....some stirring, but not a lot. You can also make your dye recipe up in 2cups boiling water, pour 1 cup in the pot before adding your wool along with a glug of vinegar...let it dye for a bit, then splotch 1/2 cup over 1 side of the wool, let it sit about 10 minutes, then flip it over and splotch the other side with the other 1/2 cup.

  22. OH I love the all!!! Cool linens!

I love that black and white toasting pic. I found this lovely too on Ebay a couple of years ago, stitched all in black and it is housed in my kitchen right now. I love colonial design.

Keep up the good work. I love your show and tell Friday! ;)
