~*Before and After*~

Hello Dear Friends! This was one heck of a busy weekend... and it really wasn't planned. Saturday started calm with no set schedule of anything to do. Tony & I had a lunch date and planned to stop at the home store to pick up a few things he needed for the boat he is building. Once home... he set out to work on his project... which is almost finished.

I was walking around the house trying to decide what to do or what to work on. There are a bunch of craft projects that I'm working on and a bunch more that I want to work on... but as I was walking past the kiddo's room... a sudden urge to purge and revamp came over me!

This is what I saw...

Complete chaos & destruction!

Obviously a kid that doesn't NEED for anything except for the ability to CLEAN something!

Ughhh!

Ok... so he is 8 ~ almost 9 ~ and maybe this is NORMAL. But as a frustrated mom... I couldn't take it anymore!

So I began removing EVERYTHING from his room (of course, I did have to pull Tony away from his boat building to help me with the heavy stuff)

By EVERYTHING... I do mean EVERYTHING!

Including this ugly... 40+ year old carpet! Oh my gosh... can you imagine the dirt that must have been in this? YUCK YUCK YUCK! (We have one more room, our bedroom, that still has the original house carpet in it... and it will be the next to go!)

I (with the help from my loving husband) moved all of EVERYTHING into our spare bedroom.

Then... I painted... the ceiling (because I so HATE the gold glitter specks in the popcorn), the closet, the walls, and even the floor. Well... let me explain the floor paint. I would really LOVE to get new carpet, but that isn't in the budget right now. We, unfortunately, don't have hardwood floors in our home. When the carpet is gone, there is just plywood sub floor. Most of the painting I did was done with leftover paint... the floor is leftover porch paint from the studio. The only paint I had to pick up for the project was the ceiling paint... and the beautiful, bright accent wall paint. I also bought a cheap, plain area rug... 'cause he does like to play on the floor. He needs to be comfy.

Not everything is put away yet... but it is so awesome to have the room look so FRESH!

Trinity is so very happy! He must have thanked me at least a dozen times... and told me, "Mom, every time I walk into my new room I have to smile."

He has a very big bed. It is a Queen... and to make it even bigger... it is up on bed risers. We do this, because he has to have a place to put toys... see the roller totes...

They are full... and there are more toys to go in here. So this morning, I picked up a couple more totes for the closet...

Would you believe, he has a toy box too? Goodness... he isn't hurting for toys. AND... I know he will be getting more in just a couple of weeks for his birthday! Another reason this project needed to be done. Today I plan to continue sorting toys... and hopefully thinning the amount of them down. A trip to Goodwill will be a good thing!

Hmmm... it wasn't a crafty weekend, but I do feel very proud of what I have accomplished!

Wishing you warm smiles...

Betty

  3. what a fun post!...I had to laugh...my boys are grown now but I do so remember going through all the toys from time to time and either having a yard sale or making a trip to Goodwill every so often...my 2 boys are as different as night and day...one is a neat freak and the other keeps his room a mess (21 and still lives @ home)...the neat freak has his own apt. and keeps it neat as a pin!...his wife doesn't lift a finger to help either...oh well, thanks for taking me down memory lane...I hope your son will keep his room looking nice for quite some time!

  4. Hah! I had to smile, too, while reading this post! I so remember having those moments, when I would have to stop everything I was doing to wade through a kid's room and do a complete over-haul!! It would've made me crazy if it stayed that way another minute!
Trinity's room looks fabulous -- you did a great job on it!

  9. What a great job! Makes me want to tackle my daughter's room. If you think 9 years old is bad wait until he's a teenager :)

  10. Great new look for his room as he is growing up, that one could take him right on through High School! And those designers over at HGTV better watch out. If you ever set your goal on getting on one of those design shows! Great job!

  11. Ahhhhh...what a brave soul to post the "befores"...I think any of us who have ever had children can relate... I'm so needing to do that with my son's room - except he is now 20 and I'm afraid what I might find lurking in there!!! He does try to keep it up, but he has such a small space (only room for a twin bed and he's 6'1")...But, that sure brought back memories of the "toy" thing...was so glad when we didn't have all that to contend with!! Great job Betty....looks so inviting. And how awesome is that that Trinity actually appreciates what you've done!! Woo Hoo!!! Hold onto that little nugget of joy for a long, long, time!! Wishing you a wonderful week ahead! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  13. Wow!! If you ever wander around wondering what to do, could you wander over here and clean out my studio! You are amazing! That room before and after is just wonderful. I'll bet he's happy. I think it's great you painted over the sub-flooring. It'll keep for a while and still look good. Nice job, Mama!

  14. Wooohooo!!!! You did an awesome job Betty!!! Man, I always feel soo accomplished after doing the kids' rooms! LOL! So I know you must be on a major addreniline rush right now, and feeling VERY good! :D I love the blue wall, and how you put the bed up on risers! GREAT idea! And it looks fantastic!
I used to go thru the kids' toys/rooms about once every 4-5 months just to get rid of toys they don't play with anymore. Hard to do when they are hanging over you. LOL So always did it while they were at school! :D But they would always come home and be so thankful for a more clean and organized room, they never missed the toys (and trash) that i got rid of! Imagine that! LOL

  15. Reminds me of the cleaning project in the boy's bedroom downstairs. My youngest's side of the room was, well, kinda like your son's room ~ a mess. Some of the toy mess does diminish once they grow older. =)

  20. What a Great job Betty! I keep telling my 18 year old that I'm going in one day to her room with a black bag in hand lol. I just get the "eye". I think what makes this post even more special is the way that Trinity was sooo appreciative :) Love it!
