~*New Etsy Listings*~

Hello Dear Friends!

I hope you are all doing well... and having a GREAT beginning to Fall!

(one of the Halloween pins listed for sale in my shoppe)

Things have remained busy on my end... working a new job and keeping up with family and our animal critters.  Today was a day off... and the first for over a month that I feel like my body may be catching up with my schedule.  I slept well last night and was able to get a lot accomplished today... including listing several Halloween needlepunches in my Etsy Shoppe!

Please CLICK HERE to take a look.

~*~*~*~*~

I don't believe I've shared our chicken babies with you.  They hatched on or near September 1st.  So today they are about 5 weeks old (right?).  We have six babies.  We were able to do this only because my sister shared a dozen of her fertilized chicken eggs with us.  We don't have a rooster here... only 7 big hens.  One went broody (?... I'm new to this!).  So... we let her sit on the eggs we were given... and were so happy to see, that after 21 days, 6 hatched and they are all still healthy after 5 weeks.

We think (but, of course, don't know for sure) that we have at least two Roos in this bunch.  The one that my sister tells me is an American chicken, has been named Uncle Sam.  Here he is...

My SIL, Robin, did say we should call him Kernel Sanders.  I quickly NO~NOed that name!  It is funny though!

Here are all the babies together...

Wishing you all warm smiles...

~*New Pattern... and a Sweet Finish*~

Hello Dear Friends!

For the last update on Primitive Handmades Mercantile, I made a small stocking ornie with a Witch and Spider.  Many asked that it be made into a pattern.  So not to disappoint... it happened!  My latest pattern release is similar... with only small changes.

I call this pattern, simply... ~*Witch's Stocking*~.  It is available in my Etsy Shoppe as a PDF Pattern (instant download).  If you don't have an Etsy identity, purchase through email to me ~ my_tony1@yahoo.com ~ is also an option.

The pattern uses six strand DMC floss.  It also includes information for finishing with a crochet edge and loop.  The finished stocking is about 7".

The pattern is only $5.00!!!  It punches up and finishes quickly.  Do you have a black feather tree?  Or did you make one of those really cool wool feather trees?  Wouldn't it be totally awesome to display several stockings on it???  There is time to make them before the Halloween Holiday is here!!!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I spied this darling ditty on Facebook the other day.  Sandi hooked my ~*Olde Cat*~ freebie pattern .  She has her finish for sale in her Etsy Shoppe also.  I am so delighted to see her finish.  It is purely, sweetly, primitive!  Great hooking Sandi!  Thank you for working with my patterns.

Thank you all, for allowing me to share and supporting me with kindness to continue to create.

Wishing you warm smiles...

~*Braggin'*~

Hello Dear Friends!

It has been so long since I've had a ~*Friday Finishes*~ post... so, I'm going to rename it a ~*Braggin'*~ post... and do it when I get the chance.

Here are some awesome finishes to brag about...

Julie punched up my freebie ~*Old Cat*~... and she did such a prim~perfect job!  She changed up the lettering a little bit to fit her needs and then mounted it on an old chalkboard.  Her choice of flosses and her finish is just wonderful!  I love it!  The cat looks amazingly~old!

Lauralee stitched my freebie ~*Sunflowers and Crows*~... and her finish into the super~darling pillow with rick~rack is stunning!  I love rick~rack!!!  Oh, and do you see her sweet sunflower pin in the corner?  Oh.... I love love love it!

Many sweet thanks to both you girls for working with my designs and for sharing!  I'm blushing that you both created such wonderful treasures from my designs!  Thank you!!!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I stitched up this patriotic penny rug yesterday.  I volunteer one afternoon a week at our small town pool... working in the concession stand.  It isn't very busy... so I take advantage of my time and work on something.  This was my project this week.  It is a kit given to me by my good friend PatiJane.  I'm a little late for Independence Day this year.... but maybe I'll just leave it out all year!

It doesn't show very well from the photo, but the background wool has a beautiful checked pattern.  For stitching, I used some of my Valdani threads.

I was in Topeka today to run some errands.  Since I'm very low on lights and tans in my floss collection, I picked up a little.  Goodness.... my receipt was about 3 feet long!

Wishing you all warm smiles...

~*All About Wings... and another FREEBIE*~

Hello Dear Friends!

Our weekends, only due to my husband's work schedule, are three days... always.  They are Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.  It really allows us to get a lot accomplished around home and, more importantly, spend more time together.

This weekend, my dear husband helped me with a few of my crafty and junky projects...

First... we made an angel... that I have named Laverne... from thrown out, scrappy items...

an old shutter
piece to a twin bed (with the legs cut off)
sticks from a small garden trellis
scrap piece of plywood
grapevine wreath
flower garland...
(Both the wreath and garland were found at a thrift store for very few pennies!)
She hangs on a shed near our chickens.  I think she is just darling!!!

Why did I name her Laverne?  She is named after my dear Aunt Laverne... that passed away on July 21st.  I miss her dearly, but I know she is in a good place now and is surrounded by love.  She will always be near and dear to me.

~*~*~*~*~*~

This morning, I purchased an old ceiling fan that was found on a Buy, Sell, Trade site.  It didn't take me long to put these dragonflies together!

This one is made with an old table leg, the ceiling fan blades (cut down to make a little curvy on the ends), old junk cabinet knobs for eyes, and pieces of a rusty coat hanger for antennae... It now hangs on the side of our boathouse near the pond...

While I had all the tools out... I made another!  This one is constructed from old boards ~ already painted white... and now chippy, old furniture hardware for eyes, and rusty bed-springs for the antennae.  (I think this one is my favorite of the two!)... It now hands on the front end of our pole-barn... facing the road.  Maybe it will make a passerby chuckle a bit!

I think all the re~claimed... re~purposed projects from our weekend are quite fun!

~*~*~*~*~*~

And while I'm still on a 'wing' kick.... Here is another simple FREEBIE DOODLE for you...

~*Angel Love*~

She is simple.  The heart was left bare on purpose... maybe you will want to add initials? ... or cut the heart opening to frame a picture?  The design will be much more interesting when the fibers are added... the colors... the medium used.... the process of crafting with it.  At least that is what I'm thinking.  Have fun with it!

Enjoy!  Hook, punch, stitch, paint... whatever the medium you choose... have fun with the doodle!  Resize to your desire.  Please though... give credit for the design to me ~ primitivebettys/Betty Dekat.  Your finished works may be sold, but no 'mass production' please.  Also, DO NOT sell the pattern!  It is free FREE FREE!  Thank you!  Oh... and I do love to see those finished items!  Share them with me!

 ~*~*~*~*~*~

The rest of the time over the weekend was mostly used for yard work... and resting.  It has been brutally hot here!  I can't even begin to tell you how much I've sweat!!!  Aarrggghhh

Wishing you all warm smiles... and crafty fun!

~*Are You Punching, Hooking, Stitching... Crafting?*~

Hello Dear Friends!

Well, if you are feeling crafty... here is another FREEBIE DOODLE for YOU!

~*Scaredy Cat*~ © 2015 primitivebettys

Yes, it is very similar to the ~*Halloween Kitty*~ from last year.  I find it comical to compare the faces from last year to this year.  I had not looked at last years doodle until I went to post this picture and saw it in the file.  Hmmmm... what does it mean?  LOL

I can see either doodle crafted without the Jack~O~Lantern faces.  They would make sweet Autumn ditties with just plain pumpkins.  Don't ya think?

Well... either way...

Isn't the ~*Goofy Witch*~ quite... GOOFY?

This freebie doodle was inspired by my early pumpkin... picked fresh from my garden yesterday.  Isn't it cute?  It is a small one... good for pies I suppose.  Hmmm... maybe I will give it a try and whip up a fresh-from-the-oven, pumpkin pie!  SMILE!

Also in my garden... blooming beautifully... my Zinnia... so pretty!
Wishing you all warm smiles... and happy crafting!

~*Blooming!*~

Hello Dear Friends!

Finally, I was able to sneak away and do some crafting!  Some rug hooking actually!  This is what resulted from that little bit of time...

Sunflowers!  And red, white, and blue sorta bud...

And more Sunflowers!

The larger blooms are mounted on rusty, old, bedsprings... that I added a wee bit of yarn too ~ for more color.  The blooms were padded ~ like little pillows ~ before I stitched them on the springs.  Aren't the pedals cool?  I hooked them 'proddy~like'.  Actually, I don't know how to proddy... this is my un~schooled method.  LOL  These will be on my update this week.  (Thursday evening at 8pm CST... on Primitive Handmades Mercantile)

These Sunflowers (below) are for the table.  The smaller one is a gift for a friend... a mug rug for her tea or coffee... although, I do think she drinks more ice tea rather than hot drinks.  Hopefully she likes it!

The larger one will be on my update this week too.  It could still be a mug rug, but may be better used as a teapot rug... or just a table rug.  I'll decide how to describe it better when I post the update.

It looks like there is more crafty time available for me the next few days... now to decide what to work on next!  Oh... so many mediums... so many projects!

Wishing you warm smiles...

~*Thank You So Much!*~

Hello Dear Friends!

I have received some beautiful, hand~crafted gifts in the mail from some very charming, generous women!  Of course, I'm excited to share them with you!

First... Patti sent me one of her most~beautiful pentagon boxes!  Oh my... Patti's handwork always amazing me.  She is so super talented!  I'm honored to have several of her handmades... and I just love each and every one!  She calls the wools in this one, "seawater" and she finished it with an antique Victorian cut-glass mourning button.  To say I LOVE IT... is an understatement!  Thank you so much, Patti!  I feel so blessed by your kindness!

Also in the mail... all the way from Lyn in Australia!... was a very heavy envelope FULL of goodies!  Lyn sent me this awesome bunch of goodies as part of the Garden Swap hosted by Rhonda of Dirt Road Primitives.

She crafted this sweet and charming, soft ditty bag and scissor FOB...
I had trouble getting a good camera shot... but here is a close~up of her lovely handwork....
And... that wasn't all!... Just look at all these gifts!  Oh my... Lyn was so generous!  She sent me so many wonderful goodies!  Thank you, Lyn!!!  I love it all!  And I feel so super~spoiled!  I will smile each time I see my bag and FOB... or any of the other special gifts.  :-)

Our Summer remains busy... as I'm sure yours is as well.  It has been so long since I have crafted on anything... but I have hopes that will change this weekend.  I'm happy to say I am HOME for three days... with NO PLANS to leave the house!  So... that means I MUST craft!  Yippee!

Wishing you all warm smiles...

~*Summer Thyme Is Here!*~

Hello Dear Friends!  Officially, isn't it still Spring?  For us though, at least with our schedule, Summer has begin!  School let out on May 12th... and vacation started the very next day!  Really... it did!  My son and I took about a week long trip to beautiful California to visit a couple of our Aunts.  For both of us, it was the first time to see the ocean!  Oh my... stunningly beautiful!

After returning home... it has been one activity after another... piano lessons, ball, sleepovers, errands, fun... and I was down sick all of this week.  Oh well... I'm better now... and back to trying to balance everything... The kiddo starts 4 weeks of Percussion Camp on Monday... that only adds to the ongoing list of activities!

This is a rug I hooked for my Aunt Sue.  Ryder is her cherished Vizsla.  The pup is much more beautiful than my rendition... but I did my best.  Somehow, I managed to only get a picture of the rug before the edges were whipped.  Oops!
I've been trying to stitch in the evenings... but crafting has been slow going.  Even my poor loom is gathering dust right now.  *sad*
Trinity and I though... are spending a lot of good quality time together.  He is growing up too fast.  I can't believe he will be in 8th grade already!  It seems like just yesterday that he started preschool!
Wishing you all warm smiles... we are off to another ball game.

Play BALL!!!

~*Happy Earth Day... gardening and weaving*~

Hello Dear Friends!

Happy Earth Day to you all!  I hope you have enjoyed the day and celebrated in one way or another.  For us... it was mowing, weeding, watering, seeding... and later, I will be recycling more denim to weave more rugs!  But... I have stopped to enjoy the greens... the sunshine... the smell of the Spring Time air... and all this beautiful Earth has to offer us around our own humble home...

Our pond is looking a rich, mossy green... but still so quaint, peaceful, and enduring...

We built the front part of our garden fencing the other day... none of the supplies needed to be purchased... all the posts, boards, and gate were in the barn.  The old farmer that lived here before must have saved it thinking he would put it somewhere ~ someday... so we did!  Do you see the broken board on the gate?  Yup... I think I will leave it just like that!  I love how old and primitive it is... just like it has been here for years and years!  The other three sides will be plain chicken wire to keep the bunnies out!

Potatoes and onions are growing great!
My rows make it look like I am a 'drunken~gardener'... not one is straight... but oh well... we will have plenty of veggies Summer!
My garden has more than vegetables... I have planted Zinnias, Cosmos, Marigolds, and (I may decide later this was a mistake), but I also planted some Morning Glory along the new fence.  I sure hope they don't take over!

These are the Marigold starts...

Oh... and I can't forget my Sunflowers!  *Smile*

I have finished and listed another woven, denim rug.  It is listed in my Etsy shoppe...

This one has some Vintage Curtain fabric mixed in to make random stripes.  Swing by to take a look if you have a chance.

Also, this one was listed last week for my update on Primitive Handmades Mercantile.  It is still available if you are interested.
(I will always combine shipping too.)

I have a BIG stack of denim to prep for weaving... I had better get busy!

Wishing you all warm smiles...

Betty
